If you are interested in the original Elves of mythology borrowed by J.R.R. Tolkien for his works, this page is very interesting:
(The Unfallen Elves of J.R.R Tolkien.) By Leonid L. Korablev.

This extensive site, developed by a gay 'slashaholic' is the best I have come across for people who write M/M or want to, and simply have questions, or preconcieved ideas about M/M relationships. The information comes from some-one who knows what he is talking about, after all. For me it is an incredibly informative site.
Please note, the link goes to the main page. You will need to pass through an 'over 18' warning before you enter any of the pages shown, as the site is strictly for adults, and contains graphic M/M sexual imagery and text content.

For a step into the mythological and highly mystical, this is fascinating. Read about people who claim to have truly seen and spoken to Elves.
The Alfar: Dancing Light And Singing Dark.
Quote: The Alfar - the Old Norse word that later became "elves" in English - are one subgroup of a race of beings whose mythology is spread across all of Europe. They are both the most archetypically well-known race, mostly due to modern fantasy novels, and yet strongly misunderstood and euphemized. Northern-Tradition Shamanism ~ Pathwalkers Guide ~~~

How did the Anglo-Saxon's view Elves? Tolkien, after all, borrowed heavily from mythology. His Elves were not flower fairies; they were not Santa's little helpers. This book review gives a glimpse. Quote: 'Elves, it seems were not little people, they weren’t invisible, they didn’t fly. If you met an Old English ælf or a Scandinavian álfr, he would look like an aristocratic male, as splendid as one of the vanir, who intermarry with the gods in Eddaic mythology. They were mighty fighters: “elf of battle” was a poet’s compliment, and Alfred, ‘elf-wisdom’, was a fitting name for a king.'
